The idea of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) excites many. But for years, entering this promising domain meant living with the rigid biannual exam cycle. Therefore, aspiring CAs lived around two high-stakes windows – May/June and November/December. So, missing an attempt or falling short of a few marks meant waiting for the next six months!
However, not anymore. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has transformed the entry-level path. So, the CA Foundation exam will now be held three times a year in January, May/June, and September.

What Has Changed and Why?
Earlier, CA Foundation exams were held only twice a year. But the ICAI has revised its system, according to which students will get three opportunities annually to appear for the exam. This decision has helped reduce the waiting period between examinations from six months to 3-4 months.
ICAI CA Foundation Exam Dates for September
As of now, the upcoming exam dates for September 2026 are 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th September 2026. The sessions will be conducted in offline mode across different centers. The application process will start on July 6, 2026.
The CA Foundation examination comprises four papers: Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude, and Business Economics. Here’s the schedule.

CA Foundation Exam 2026 Application Process
Here’s how you can apply for the CA Foundation examination.
- Registration: Candidates must register for the CA Foundation Course on the official ICAI website by filling out their personal and academic information. They must upload scanned copies of Class 10 and 12 certificates and other required documents, a passport-sized photograph, and their signature.
- Payment: The candidate is required to pay the registration fee online through the registration process.
- Form Filling: The candidate must fill out the exam application form on the ICAI Self Service Portal (SSP) before the due date.
- Document Submission: The candidate must submit the printed application form, copies of educational certificates, etc.
